Alexandria's Nature Scape

Dig – Climb – Splash – Explore – Imagine - Learn

Alexandria’s Nature Scape was completed in late 2012; a ribbon cutting in spring of 2013. This natural play area was created because of the ever growing need for children to get back to nature - to be a kid, outside! A nature scape is a natural space designed for children to initiate play and connect to nature. Unstructured outdoor play has many benefits such as increased physical activity, enhanced creativity and imagination, improved risk-assessment skills, and reduced stress.

Children will enter Alexandria's Nature Scape across from the new raptor center at Howell Nature Center (HNC). The first thing children will see is the cascading water flowing down the water feature, ending in the splash area at the bottom. At the top of the hill the fun really begins. Children will find a large sand box called the SAND DUNE with a slide and plenty of sand toys. The STUMP JUMP accommodates kids big and small with a shorter version for the little ones. Nearby is the MUSIC GARDEN, WEAVING WALL and MUD PAINTING areas, allowing kids to explore and be creative. Children can climb on the LOG JAM or SPIDER CLIMBER across from the entrance to the FAIRY AREA. The Tree House at the back of Alexandria’s Nature Scape is the highlight of the area for young and old.

Since 2013, over 149,000 children have visited the Nature Scape area.
